Six "SAGE Storytellers" (= SAGE Automation employees) recently hosted 35 year 9 students from southern schools on a tour of their advanced automation business, to educate and inform the students about the industry and their particular job. SAGE Automation are a leading-edge international company that develops innovative automation solutions for a broad market sector including automotive, manufacturing, the wine industry, food and beverage and the water industry.
The storytellers were all employed in different occupations within various aspects of the company including CAD, Manufacturing Intelligence, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Safety & Quality Systems and Apprenticeships.
Groups of students rotated between the six different SAGE Storytellers - this one spoke about Manufacturing Intelligence...
... and another explained the principles of robotics and how they work; particularly in this industry.
A DVD was made to document the workshops with students and Storytellers, and also the competition and awards morning tea which was held a week after the workshops. The DVD will be used to promote considering career pathways into the automation industry, and/or engineering career to students next year.
After the half-day visit to SAGE, students designed posters back at school to promote one of the particular careers in the advanced automation industry they learned about while at SAGE. The posters were entered into a competition with winners announced and prizes awarded at a morning tea celebration the following week. Above is the overall winner; Belinda Hanns from Immanuel College with the judges and SAGE Automation Adopt a School Co-ordinators.
SAGE Automation sponsor a V8 Racing Car which was on display on the day of the workshops.
