Your students can expect to have up to 25 different jobs throughout their working life and more than one occupation. They can also expect to enter and exit training multiple times along the way as they either re-train, update or advance their knowledge. They can expect that industries around today will evolve and jobs currently available will be gone. But as industries evolve they can also expect to have access to jobs in the future that don't even exist today.
This means that the definition of a career has changed from "one job" to a complex journey of changing jobs, changing roles, changing careers, periods of underemployment and unemployment and learning new skills.
This lifelong career for your students will evolve as they develop and increase awareness of themselves and emerging opportunities, and as society changes and evolves to reveal those new opportunities.
The challenge for young people is having the skills to "manage" their career so that they can constantly adjust to the inevitable change and make good decisions along the way.
This web site will provide you with some useful links and information to help you help your students begin managing their journey while they are still at school.
