STUDENTS - PREPARING FOR STRUCTURED WORK PLACEMENT
In the classroom:
It is imperative that you have completed the Occupational Health and Safety component of the VET course prior to going out on a work placement. This is for your protection and that of your host employer.
Some course Programs will also require you to complete other applicable components of a course in order for you to be best prepared.
At home:
Consider a number of aspects when looking at accessing a work placement:
How will I get transport there
When is the best time to do the placement which does not cause problems with other expectations ie casual work, exam preparation, holidays
What sort of equipment and / or clothing will be required
What are the standard expectations of the industry you are experiencing – ie bakery may require work out of the normal hours
PROCESSES
While some students are encouraged by teacher/trainers to find a suitable placement for SWL themselves, others will be supported to do this through your school - check with our VET Teacher or VET Co-ordiantor of you are not sure.
If you have been encouraged to find your own placement it is quite acceptable to contact us direct to request some assistance and referral to a suitable employer.
