To diffuse a common misunderstanding from the beginning, Structured Work Place Learning (SWL) is NOT Work Experience.
They are however similar in operation. Both involve the generosity of a business to host a student or course participant for a nominated period of time (usually one week or one day per week for a defined period). And, it is fair to say that both provide the participant with the opportunity to become involved in a workplace and learn.
If you are preparing to undertake a VET course at school, or even a short course it is wise to check the mandatory requirements of a Structured Work Placement. These often range from 1 week to 4 weeks for a full year course and there are some courses which offer a ‘simulated’ environment and this is instead of going out into a workplace.
